Enchanted Rock

IMG_7634

Enchanted Rock is exactly like the name says. It’s a big rock that is quite enchanting. I like it mainly because Texas is pretty flat and this gives me some climbing. It’s about an hour or so away from San Antonio. Here is the link http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/enchanted-rock

It’s worth the drive to take in the view and see all the flowers that grow there. You can rock climb, camp and just explore. Asides from the giant rock, there are other trails to walk around. IMG_7631

To make it more challenging I wore my ankle weights at 2.5 lbs each. It was a good sweat running up that rock. I had to stop twice but next time I will make it all the way with no stops.

Only in Texas will you find a grill in the shape of the state. Love it!IMG_7633

And of course I always injure myself. Totally fell while standing still on some loose rocks. I didn’t realize the amount of blood came from all those rocks scraping my knee. Sadly the puppy got hurt too so we took turns carrying her. Yup I carried her like a baby with 5 lbs ankle weights and a bleeding knee. That’s fitness for ya 🙂

Friedrich Wilderness Park

IMG_5550

This is a beautiful hidden gem just outside of 1604 and I-10 on 21395 Milisa Road 78256. Friedrich Wilderness Park is open from sun up to sun set, and yes they will ticket you if you stay out too late after dark. It doesn’t allow for bikes or dogs but is great for hiking and nature watching with some scenic overlooks. This is by far my favorite place to trail walk, trail run and hike in town. It actually has some good climbing since Texas is quite flat. I try to go every Sunday morning because it’s so serene and I really feel connected to nature. My favorite part though is seeing all the families that are having fun, active, quality time together. I love seeing parents instill those experiences and values to their little ones so they can gain a love of nature and health. My second favorite part is seeing all the elderly couples hiking and bird watching. It makes me want to be active now so I can still be active well past retirement.

I highly recommend checking this park out. You will be active, burn some calories, build muscle all the while having fun and get a little tan in. I’ve seen deers, red robins, a porcupine, and other little creatures. You can do the main loop or any of the various trails that branches off. Part of it is paved, part bark and part dirt and rocks. You can run it or you can walk it. You can even bring your camera to take amazing pictures. Either way it’s a place to definitely check out. If you don’t live in San Antonio just Google search parks and hiking areas in your town. Lots of hidden gems will pop up. Check them out. Sometimes it’s a bust and sometimes it’s your new favorite place to spend a Saturday morning. You’ll never know unless you check it out

-The flowers are in bloom with lots of color. -very simple map to follow. It's impossible to really get lost. Trust me I always find a trail back. -I like to run all the paved paths, and for a challenge I'll run all the rocks too.

Red isn’t just for Valentine’s Day

IMG_5178[1]I don’t own a lot of red but after seeing my friend Pamela in a red pencil skirt I became obsessed with owning one. Since it’s not a color I wear often and I’m always cheap, I casually went in search for my very own red skirt. While walking through Macy’s during their giant additional 40% off sale (the shoe department looked like a tornado had it it) I found the perfect pencil skirt with black lace trim. Subtle accents can transform a simple silhouette. It’s very important not to get one with too much orange in it because it looks cheap to me and doesn’t transition from season to season. Even though the final price of $8 was pretty good, that’s still money I shouldn’t and didn’t need to spend. After debating for quite some time I bit the bullet and bought it. I am really glad I did because I got lots of complements and lets face it, that’s what it’s all about. Women dress first to feel good about themselves then to impress other women. Their approval boosts our confidence. A distant third is to impress the guys. Let’s face it, men only notice the overall effect but women appreciate the effort. Red and black is a classic look that everyone should try.

Take a necklace and wrap around for a funky bracket. It’s not about being structured. And yes I wear transition glasses. They are very functional if not always pretty.

Red is such a statement color already so pair with black, white or a polka dot print top in those same colors. This is my maternity shirt I got at Target for under $10 on sale.
